Our Work

Our activities are designed to teach, research and address the health consequences of violence, nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, the health consequences associated with energy resources and armed conflict, methods of nonviolent conflict resolution, and the promotion of social justice in a sustainable world.

Recognizing that doctors have a long tradition as teachers and health experts, our main focus is on education and public health advocacy.

Program & Projects

Group of people gathered outdoors for a protest or demonstration, many wearing helmets and holding signs against weapons and nuclear weapons, in front of historic buildings.

Medical Education.

We mentor medical student research projects, give talks at medical teaching rounds, and write articles for medical journals and textbooks. We provide educational resources to national medical organizations.

Two people standing on a grassy area holding a large white sign that reads: "Canada, Please!!! Sign the Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty." Behind them is a historic castle-like building with turrets, set against a partly cloudy sky.

Public Education.

We teach high school students about nuclear weapons, war and climate change. We speak to local community groups and write articles for magazines and newspapers. We act as non-partisan consultants to all levels of government.

A person writing at a table with handmade signs, one of which says 'International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons' and has a drawing of a nuclear missile crossed out. There is a person wearing a straw hat decorated with purple and white flowers nearby.

Abolition.

We support the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) and participated in the negotiations leading to the Treaty on the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons. We promote the ICAN Cities Appeal by giving presentations to local municipal councils.

A young woman with glasses and long dark hair speaking into a microphone while holding papers, outdoors with trees in the background, and an older woman sitting nearby.

Youth Engagement.

We support and mentor young people engaged in national and international peace activities. We contribute to the success of the Youth Nuclear Peace Summit in Winnipeg, a yearly internship program, and webinars geared specifically towards youth.
