Civil Society’s Role in Times of Conflict with Dr. Ruth Mitchell

On March 9th, 2022 IPPNWC hosted a conversation on the role IPPNW and civil society organizations play in preventing and stopping armed conflict. In light of recent events in the Ukraine, Dr. Mitchell addressed this conflict and the need for organizations like ours to address global institutions failing to attain peace.

Dr. Ruth Mitchell is an Australian-trained Neurosurgeon and long-time anti-nuclear activist. She received her medical degree from Flinders University. Dr. Michell currently resides in Vancouver, BC, working as a clinical fellow in pediatric neurosurgery at the BC Children's Hospital. Dr. Mitchell is dedicated to the work of physicians in preventing nuclear war and has been involved on the ground floor of Nobel Peace Prize winning organizations. Dr. Mitchell is currently Chair of the Board of IPPNW, and is the first woman to hold this office.
